The Singapore Green Plan 2030 was launched in February 2021 as a whole-of-nation movement for sustainable development. The Green Plan charts targets over the next 10 years with the aim of reaching net zero emissions as soon as possible.

In this in-person breakfast dialogue, which is subject to limited capacity on a first-come, first-serve basis, we will be discussing:

Singapore Green Plan 2030 targets

  • introducing a new Enterprise Sustainability Programme to help local enterprises
  • creating business and job opportunities in green finance, sustainability consultancy, verification, credits trading, and risk management
  • becoming a centre for Green Finance in Asia by building up the financial sector's resilience to environmental risks, developing green financial solutions, and leveraging innovation and technology
  • promoting local innovation under the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Plan 2025
  • attracting companies to anchor their R&D activities in Singapore to develop new sustainability solutions

Carbon Tax

Singapore's carbon tax rate has been set at S$5/tCO2e from 2019 to 2023 and applies to direct emissions from facilities emitting 25 ktCO2e or more in a year. To achieve the more ambitious goals, the Government has announced that it will review the trajectory and level of the carbon tax, post-2023, in consultation with industry and expert groups. The Government will announce the outcome of the review at Budget 2022.

Goal of Zero Emissions

The Government has enhanced Singapore's 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution to peak emissions at 65MtCO2e around 2030. By 2030, Singapore aims to achieve a 36% reduction from 2005 emission levels. With the current goal of reaching net zero emissions as soon as possible, what are the limiting factors to reaching net zero emissions in Singapore?

How businesses can and are participating in the Green Economy

The discussion will be moderated by Lorena Paglia, Transformation, Corporate / Sustainable Development and Governance at Asia-Pacific, Microsoft, and the Chair of our Sustainability Committee.
