Neil Walmsley leads Arup’s Future Cities Hub and the Advisory, Planning & Design business in South East Asia (SEA), based in Singapore. He is a Chartered Engineer and holds Master’s Degrees in both Civil Engineering and Transport Planning. With over 20 years of built environment consultancy experience, Neil’s career has included periods in the UK, the Middle East and South East Asia. His project experience has often been at the nexus of city planning issues including integration of property, transport, infrastructure and public space with consideration for economic, social and environment sustainability and city resilience. Neil has held senior roles in a number of complex city shaping projects including Dubai’s successful bid to host Expo 2020 (2012/13), Abu Dhabi 2030 Capital City Plan (2013/14), Singapore’s Sentosa 2030 Master Plan (2018/19) and Indonesia’s New Capital Master Plan (2019/ongoing).

Joan is one of Arup’s global sustainability leaders based in Australia. She focuses on the human dimensions of sustainability and climate change in cities. Recently, she led a landmark global study in the how cities are accelerating the use of green infrastructure to solve social, economic and environmental stresses, including urban heating, flooding, community amenity and worker productivity. Her work revealed that Singapore is a leader in using planning and industry capacity for urban greening. Cities around the world should learn from Singapore’s experience.

Rob has delivered a wide variety of effective carbon management strategies for organisations, cities and regions in the UK and internationally. This extends to the creation of low carbon city action plans for large metropolitan areas in the Asia-Pacific region. Rob has also been extensively involved with building, retrofitting, metering and monitoring renewable technology feasibility and installation. Rob is a Member of the Energy Institute (MEI), a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Measurement and Verification professional (CMVP).

Zarith Sofia Magad leads the East Asia Transport Planning Practice, with 14 years of experience in as a transport planner and engineer based in Singapore. She is a Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), and the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES), with a track record of projects at different development stages within the South East Asia region. Delivering on transport master planning and modelling, road design and traffic engineering, and road safety audits, her expertise is focused in planning, design and operations of transport and mobility infrastructure, and developing area-wide transport strategies. This includes technology-oriented solutions such as using transport technology to improve travel demand management, utilising big data for developing transport modelling and scenarios and applying Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) for the planning of non-motorised transport. Sofia is also involved in the infrastructure needed to support electrification of vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. In addition, Sofia chairs the Advance Asia Committee, part of Mott MacDonald’s global employee network that promotes Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

As a consulting civil engineer and technology leader with 24 years’ global industry experience, he has served global and regional technology leadership and management roles for Mott MacDonald in the UK, Middle East and Asia. In recent years, Derek directed a global program of digital transformation. He works across all sectors of Mott MacDonald’s infrastructure and development business to connect design processes globally, incubate emerging technologies and build internal capability for delivering differently in the digital age. He is now shaping the next evolution of digital practices at Mott MacDonald and also supporting major digital transformation in infrastructure across Asia.

Damian qualified as a Chartered Accountant and his subsequent career has encompassed mergers, acquisitions, disposals, fundraising and equity capital markets transactions in many countries and sectors. Over the last ten years, Damian's activities have broadened with the addition of direct investment in small and medium size companies and he is currently a shareholder and director of companies operating in sectors as diverse as furniture, media, property and minerals. Damian has a degree in Mathematics. He is married with three teenage daughters.
