Ben Arnott
Managing Director, Energy & Natural Resources, Reserve Based Finance of Societe GeneraleBen has 19 years of professional experience in the oil and gas industry in Asia Pacific. Ben leads Societe Generale’s Reserve Based Finance team based in Singapore, with a focus on arranging financing for oil & gas projects in the region. Typically, this is in the form of structured debt, however ongoing projects include equity raising for start-up E&P companies, and offtake style financings.
Successfully closed transaction include financing for the Block A Gas Development Project in Indonesia for Medco Energi, the financing of Beach Energy’s acquisition of Lattice Energy in Australia / NZ, and numerous reserve based facilities for independent O&G companies in Asia Pacific.
Prior to joining Societe Generale, Ben led Standard Chartered Bank’s O&G Corporate Finance team in Asia with a focus on structured finance for upstream, FPSO, and LNG projects in the region, including major liquefaction projects such as PNG LNG and Ichthys LNG.
Ben holds a degree in Geology from the Royal School of Mines, London and a Post-Graduate Diploma from Aston University, UK.
Nikki Kemp
ASEAN Hub Director of Sustainable Development Investment Partnership (SDIP)Nikki is a sustainable finance professional currently leading the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Investment Partnership (SDIP) for ASEAN. SDIP provides a platform for in-country public and private sector dialogue embedding sustainable development finance into national action plans.
Prior to joining the Forum, Nikki had established a sustainable finance consultancy in Singapore and also co-founded an energy efficiency fintech startup. With a long career in corporate and institutional banking across the UK, Australia and Asia Pacific, Nikki became an early champion of the development of sustainable finance in this region.
Nikki has also served on a various not-for-profit boards and committees targeting sustainable development and education agendas for youth.
Galid Lahdahda
Managing Director, Global Industries Group, Energy and Natural Resources - Oil and Gas of Standard Chartered BankGalid Lahdahda is a Dutch national that has been living and working in Asia for more than a decade. He started his career over 19 years ago with ABN AMRO Bank where he was working with its large European Energy and Commodity clients. After moving to Singapore to join Standard Chartered Bank’s regional Oil & Gas group, he has been specialising in providing financial services to companies that operate in the oil and gas sector.
Standard Chartered Bank is renowned for being a leading adviser and lender to the O&G sector across its footprint. As part of its Asian industry team Galid has worked on numerous O&G transactions, supporting clients across the region. Currently Galid is responsible for the bank’s activities in the downstream market covering refineries and petrochemical installations as well as energy distribution and energy infrastructure. In this role he provides M&A advice, structures and arranges project and acquisition financing, assists clients with capital market transactions and provides risk management solutions to the bank’s industry clients.
Galid holds a masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Technology Delft and is allowed to utilise the CFA designation.
Richard Michael
Country Head - Indonesia at UK Export FinanceRichard Michael is currently Country Head – Indonesia for UK Export Finance, based in the British Embassy, Jakarta. He has worked in Asia Pacific for over 30 years and has been based in Indonesia for half of that time. He has been involved in project and export finance for most of his career, most recently at Indonesia Infrastructure Finance, as well as previously with Barclays and Standard Chartered.
Richard was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford and has an MBA from Leicester University.
Jackie Surtani
Head of South-East Asia and Pacific at Asian Development BankJackie Surtani was appointed Director of the Infrastructure Finance Division that covers East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands in April 2017.
Prior to ADB, Jackie led the risk function of Siemens Financial Services’ Asian commercial finance unit as their Regional Chief Risk Officer and was responsible for a team of 80 staff in China and India. Jackie began his career at Chase Manhattan Bank (now JP Morgan) as Director of Global Power and Project Finance; was a Director for Global Project Finance at Credit Suisse; and Head of Project Finance Asia Pacific at KBC Bank for 14 years.
Mr. Surtani has 30 years of successful experience in Asian infrastructure lending and advisory. He has a strong credit philosophy and sector and regional knowledge across the entire energy chain (i.e. power generation, renewable energy, LNG), infrastructure and telecommunications.
Mr. Surtani is a national of the United Kingdom. He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Finance and Economics from the University of East Anglia in 1988 with a First Class Honours degree. He obtained his Master of Philosophy Degree in Management Studies from the University of Oxford in 1990.
