Julian started his insurance career in 1991 in London. His role focused predominantly on the Lloyd’s and company insurance markets, originally handling property and liability insurance, before subsequently specializing in placing Terrorism and Political Risk business. He was instrumental in establishing the stand-alone Terrorism insurance market as a direct response to the IRA attacks on London in 1993. Julian became one of the world’s leading brokers within his class, having handled Terrorism risk both prior and post the tragic events of 9/11. In his current role, Julian leads Aon’s crisis management practice for Asia.

Matt started his insurance career in 1997 as a Specie broker in the London market. Following an internal company move, Matt then spent time working on a wide range of insurance products such as political risks, project cargo, printers E&O, prize indemnity and event cancelation among others. Since 2002, Matt has specialised in Terrorism and Political Violence insurance, initially as a broker, and since 2009 as an Underwriter. Matt has been underwriting Terrorism and Political Violence Insurance in the Asia Pacific region since 2013, and joined Canopius at the beginning of 2019 to expand their presence in Asia for Political Violence Insurance.

Kit Dawnay is Director of Research and Singapore Country Head at SVA. He leads the research team, dealing with pre-transactional investigations, financial crime inquiries, and political risk.

Before SVA, Kit Dawnay worked for Aegis Defence Services, focusing on anti-money laundering, including work on a threat assessment for a Financial Action Task Force regional body in West Africa, and on Asian risk.

Before Aegis, Kit Dawnay worked as Committee Specialist at the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, managing inquiries into East Asia, and South Asia, and on strategic export controls. He has also worked in parliamentary support with the United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam, and as a financial journalist.
Kit has a BA Hons (1st) in History from Bristol University, an MPhil in International Relations from Cambridge University, and an LLB from the College of Law.

Carrie has over 15-year experience in Insurance industry and is currently an Underwriting Manager based in Singapore; her major role is to grow War Terrorism & Political Violence Insurance class for AXA XL Asia. She has additional involvement in finding insurance solutions for other products within the AXA XL Crisis Management and Special risks class.

She started her insurance career as a broker at HSBC Insurance Brokers based in south China and Hong Kong mainly for Financial Lines. She joined XL Insurance and moved to Singapore in 2008 as a Financial Lines underwriter, then has specialized in Terrorism and Political Violence insurance since 2013 when Asia team was set up in XL. She has broader Crisis Management product knowledge and experience in Asia region.

Carrie obtained her first degree in Xiamen University in China, and completed her master degree in CASS Business School, City University London. She is a speaker of English and Chinese, and is passionate in freestyle painting, yoga, travels and Scuba Diving.

Alexander Neill worked for the British and US governments in his early career for focusing on Asia Pacific security concerns. From 2005, he served as Head of the Asia Security Programme at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence as Security Studies (RUSI) in London. There, he developed a programme of research focusing on British policy concerns towards Asia’s security. He has coordinated a number of ‘track two’ projects in Asia including high-level dialogues in Beijing, Pyongyang, Taipei and Tokyo. A graduate of London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), he is a Chinese linguist, and has published on Chinese security issues, but also has much wider interests and expertise in Asian security, including counter-terrorism issues, deterrence strategy and cyber security.

In 2013 he was appointed Shangri-La Dialogue Senior Fellow for Asia Pacific security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies based in Singapore and was responsible for delivering the Shangri-La Dialogue summit agenda and research projects focusing on Asia Pacific security issues, particularly on China and its relationships in the region. He established his consultancy in January 2020.
