About the Event

Join us for a fireside chat with Sir Jonathon Porritt, author of Hope in Hell and Founder Director of leading international sustainability non-profit Forum for the Future, as he shares his wealth of experience both on the frontlines of environmental campaigning and on 'the inside' with businesses and policymakers over the decades.

The latest IPCC report said that it's 'now or never' for us to avoid climate catastrophe, and there is no time to waste. But in this pivotal moment, present narratives on the climate emergency are more bleak than hopeful, with news from extreme weather events to livelihoods disrupted because of changing climates recurring in the headlines. Between the bad news and countless reports to comb through following COP27, how can we, as business leaders, citizens and people, find the hope needed and take action in this decisive decade?

WHAT TOPICS WILL BE COVERED?

  • Climate Emergency
  • Personal experience of Jonathon Porritt
  • Various Narratives on Climate

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This in-person fireside chat is a mixture of entry-level knowledge and a deep-dive discussion. All are welcome if you have an interest in climate change and sustainability.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Jonathon Porritt, Founder Director of Forum for the Future, has been on the front line of environmental campaigning for more than 45 years. He's been a member of the Green Party throughout that time, and has worked tirelessly to promote the solutions to today's converging environmental crises – including as Director of Friends of the Earth (1980s), Chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission (2000-2009), and Chancellor of Keele University (2012-2022). He is Co-Founder of Forum for the Future – the UK's leading sustainable development charity – President of Population Matters and The Conservation Volunteers, and Patron of many campaigning organisations. His work as author and broadcaster has had a huge impact over the years. His latest book, 'Hope in Hell', a powerful call to action on the Climate Emergency, was published in June 2020.

ABOUT FORUM FOR THE FUTURE

Forum for the Future is a leading international sustainability non-profit. For more than 25 years we've been working in partnership with business, governments and civil society to accelerate the shift towards a just and regenerative future in which both people and the planet thrive. As our environmental, social and economic crises intensify, the world is rapidly changing, with multiple transitions already reshaping how we all live and work. But will we go far enough, and fast enough? Forum is focused on enabling deep transformation in three game-changing areas: how we think about, produce, consume and value bothfood andenergy, and the role of business in society and the economy. We're working with ambitious and diverse change-makers to shift how they feel, think, act and collaborate to drive systemic change for sustainability.
