Professor Marwa ElnahassProfessor at Newcastle University
A full Professor in Accounting and Finance at Newcastle University (UK) with a PhD from Lancaster University (UK). Prof. Elnahass has an extensive publication record includes over 30 articles on, green finance, ESG, and banking in top-tier peer-reviewed ABS listed 3* and 4 academic journals, including the British Journal of Management, Business Strategy and Environment, Journal of Environmental Management. She has also published edited books, book reviews, policy reports, technical articles, and industry-based articles. She has been involved in policy-related projects with the British government see COP26_GOV.UK on Sustainable Finance and Carbon Accounting for the ASEAN Region. This was followed by the COP27_POLCY paper and a latest Publication for COP28 with the UK Water Industry on carbon accounting and reporting. She is frequently invited to participate in policy roundtables including latest COP28 (December 2023) as well as in consultation reviews for government authorities (e.g. the UK-ASEAN Green Economy cooperation consultation in 2023 and 2022). Prof. Elnahass also actively collaborates with industry partners on impact projects, research, and joint Ph.D. supervision (e.g. Northumbria Water Limited), fostering valuable industry partnerships and policy insights.
Her contributions in the field of banking and green finance have also made a substantial impact and have been recognized by esteemed associations such as the World Health Organization. She has been invited to deliver keynote speeches for Qatar Central Bank, the European Accounting Association, Chamber of Commerce (Türkiye) and many ranked (international) universities (e.g. the University Teknologi Malaysia, EM Normandie, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, British University in Egypt, University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Oman, German University in Cairo).
She serves as an associate editor for prominent journals. She also serves as an editorial board member for ABS listed 3* and 4* peer-journals specializing in accounting, sustainability, and finance. Her expertise as a lead guest editor is showcased for the special issues of many ranked journals. In addition to her editorial roles, she also contributes as a panellist and a referee for UKRI and international research councils, such as AHRC, ESRC, and QNRF. She secured multiple large UK and international grants.
Additionally, her achievements have gained recognition in various prestigious lists and awards. She has been featured in the Top 200 List of the Most Influential Women in Islamic Business and Finance since 2020 till today by Cambridge International Financial Advisory: PRESS. She is also an advisory member for international networks such as the UK Universities Climate Network, FinTech UK, ASFAAG and act as a visiting fellow for several UK-based Russell Group Institutions.
