About the Event

Join us for a panel discussion on the effects of trade deals, technology, and sustainability on the ability of individual businesses to build resilient and flexible supply chains. The discussion will explore the opportunities and risks of trade deals such as the CPTPP.

BACKGROUND

On the 31st of March the UK government announced that it joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). This has been hailed as one of the most significant post-Brexit deals as it allows access to a large global market. Furthermore, and very importantly, it enables access to regions traditionally seen as critical for the sourcing of materials.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The focus of the discussion will be how such access can strengthen the resilience of the supply chains. It will explore the key factors that build resilience, such as adaptability and planning and will analyse if and how such deals can facilitate these. The aim is to provide a series of key lessons for businesses that are looking to strengthen their supply chains and benefit from CPTPP.

Christos Tsinopoulos is the Executive Dean of Royal Holloway, University of London’s School of Business Management, which he joined from the University of Durham in 2022. He is a Professor of operations management, and he explores the activities suppliers and customers employ to use data to improve their processes to develop new products.

As a strong advocate supply chain integration and collaboration, he has advised large and small manufacturers in the UK on the approaches they can take to benefit from regulations and the membership of global supply chains. His work has been consistently funded from a combination of competitive public and private sources and has been published in the leading journals in operations and technology management. He has a BEng and MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield and a PhD in Operations Management from the University of Warwick.

Nicole Wharfe is the Regional Sales Director for Asia at SIRVA Worldwide, the world’s largest logistics, relocation, and mobility firm; based in Singapore for the past 7 years, Nicole provides strategic direction and support to potential new clients seeking to formalize and curate their mobility programs for their current and future growth needs. Her market focus covers Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

After undergraduate study at the then University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), Nicole started her career in supply chain and asset management for a Coca Cola Enterprises, before moving into Sales, Marketing and Consultancy roles. She has worked with organizations such as Extreme Sports TV, Rip Curl, Wilkinson Sword, Linked In and has experience working in public and other private sector organisations. Prior to her role at Sirva Worldwide she has spent 5 years with the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore supporting British firms as they seek to expand into ASEAN, via Singapore, often on behalf of the UK Government’s Department for International Trade (UKDIT) trade initiatives. During this time, she was a subject matter expert in supporting companies in the Technology, Education, Financial Services and F&B/Consumer Goods sectors.
