Nick is a corporate partner based in the Singapore office of international law firm Stephenson Harwood. He advises clients on corporate mergers and acquisitions as well as on commercial matters. He has particular experience in advising on cross-border and emerging market transactions in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors. These include acquisitions, disposals, investment structures, corporate restructurings and joint ventures in oil and gas, LNG, solar, wind and conventional power as well as mining and commodities.

Nick has also advised clients on a wide range of mergers and acquisitions in other sectors including shipping, technology and financial services. Based in Singapore since 2014, he has also lived and worked in Auckland, Dubai, London and Moscow.

Recognised as a leader in his field by the main legal directories, Nick is praised by Chambers Global for his ‘commercial understanding and industry knowledge’ while The Legal 500 describes him as ‘an exceptional corporate lawyer. He provides agile thinking and practical solutions to complex issues. He understands the commercial world and what drives the decisions that in-house counsel and companies make in their sectors’.

Tim founded Energy Strat Asia in 2019 to support specialist energy services and infrastructure technology companies wanting to develop and grow in Asia. Having spent over two decades in KPMG, joining in the United Kingdom 23 years ago, he relocated to Singapore in 2012 establishing the KPMG Global Energy Institute for Asia Pacific. He has relationships with large energy companies interfacing with government, regulators, academia and financial players.

He has extensive experience of Middle and Far East Asian markets. From 2000-2009 he was the Global Executive Director of KPMG’s Energy & Natural Resources practice under a rapid growth phase; based in London and Bahrain. He is a sales and marketing professional, member of the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing and holds an executive MBA from ENPC Paris, France.

He is a Management Board Member of the Energy Studies Institute at the National University of Singapore and Chairman of the Energy & Utilities Business Group at the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Energy Institute.

Sue-Ern Tan is the Head of the International Energy Agency Regional Cooperation Centre based in Singapore.   The Centre is the first outside of the IEA’s Paris headquarters and focuses on the Southeast Asia region and beyond. It provides policy guidance, training and capacity building across areas such as scaling-up the deployment of renewables and other clean energy technologies, increasing cross-border power trade, and improving access to finance for clean energy investment.

Prior to joining the IEA, Sue-Ern worked at Shell plc in senior climate and energy roles at Shell’s headquarters in London and The Hague and most recently in Singapore.  Sue-Ern practiced as a lawyer, worked as a Ministerial adviser on energy in the Australian Government and was Deputy CEO of a minerals trade association in Australia.

Sue-Ern graduated from University of NSW in Australia and is an Eisenhower Fellow representing Australia in the 2017 International Program.
