Starting as a jazz-funk band alongside British funk peers like Incognito and Light of the World, Level 42 evolved into sophisti-pop and dance-rock stars, thanks to Mark King's iconic slap-bass and Wally Badarou's synth magic. Their 1985 album World Machine catapulted them to global fame. Formed in 1979, Level 42's original lineup included Mark King, Phil and Boon Gould, and Mike Lindup. They began with a distinctive jazz-funk sound before transitioning to a more commercial style, resulting in major hits in the mid-1980s.
Despite lineup changes and the tragic loss of guitarist Alan Murphy, the band continued to evolve and produce music. Their legacy spans decades, highlighted by albums like Retroglide in 2006 and the Sirens EP in 2013. Level 42 has celebrated milestones with tours and special releases, showcasing their timeless appeal. Get ready to groove with Level 42 and relive the magic of the '80s!
