About the Event

The British Chamber, and our Title Event Partner Select Investors, are delighted to re-introduce our flagship Annual Economic Briefing event, providing members with insights from senior economists at a national, regional and global perspective.

This year, we welcome Maybank Chief Economist, Chua Hak Bin, Oxford Economics' Senior Economist, Alex Holmes, OCBC Chief Economist, Selena Ling and Asia FX and Rates Strategist for BNP Paribas, Chidu Narayanan. The event will follow a format of presentations followed by a panel discussion moderated by Bloomberg's Senior Asia Economy Reporter, Michelle Jamrisko. The event will include opportunities for members to ask questions in the room or with sli.do.

Dr Chua Hak Bin is Regional Co-Head of Macro Research at Maybank. He was formerly a Consultant at GIC, and Head of Emerging Asia and ASEAN Economics at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Dr Chua has also worked as a Strategist and Economist at Citigroup, Deutsche Private Wealth Management, DBS Bank and RHB Bank. Prior to joining the private sector, Dr Chua was with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for about six years, heading the external economies, financial surveillance and planning, policy and communications divisions. Dr Chua holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brown University. He was a Visiting Lecturer in International Economics at Yale University for a year after completing his PhD.

Selena is the Chief Economist for OCBC Bank. As Head of Treasury Research & Strategy, she leads a research team that is responsible for Treasury market research, forecasts and trading recommendations for the bank, covering fixed income, interest rates, corporate credit, foreign exchange and macroeconomic commentary. Under her leadership, OCBC’s research capabilities have been greatly valued by customers and highly ranked in surveys.

She is a member of the OCBC Wealth Panel for Singapore and Malaysia, as well as a council member for the Economic Society of Singapore. She was conferred the IBF Fellow Award in Financial Markets in 2017. Her research writings has been extensively quoted and published by prominent media across print, television and radio.

Prior to joining OCBC in August 2000, Selena was with the Fiscal Policy Unit under the Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the Economics Department in the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).

Chidu Narayanan provides coverage of macroeconomic and financial-market developments in Asia, generating strategy inputs for Asia FX and local rates markets. Based in Singapore, he is the primary strategist formulating local market strategy views for EM Asia.

Prior to joining BNP Paribas in 2021, he spent over a decade at Standard Chartered Bank across Hong Kong and Singapore, focusing on macroeconomic and thematic research, and developing policy and market views and writing on credit and leverage in Asia, Renminbi internationalization and global trade.

Chidu is a top ranked forecaster for Asia, regularly ranked in the top 3 by Bloomberg and The Asset magazine. He is frequently quoted in international and local newswires and media. Chidu holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
