The Annual Business Awards are the flagship business event for the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore. For 25 years we have celebrated exceptional businesses, and we celebrate this milestone during our 70th Anniversary year.

All are welcome to join the Gala Awards Ceremony, regardless if you are a finalist. Join us for an evening of celebration with up to 300 senior professionals.

On the night, guests will enjoy a 3-course meal, free flow beer, wine and soft drinks, a sparkling pre-Ceremony reception, and photo opportunities throughout the evening. Finalist representatives and sponsors will be invited to a VIP reception prior to the start of the Ceremony.

The dress code for this event is business attire.

Mr Gan Kim Yong is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry. He is also the Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and is responsible for the Strategy Group in the Prime Minister’s Office. In addition, Mr Gan is a member of the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council and the National Research Foundation Board.

Mr Gan entered politics in 2001 and is a Member of Parliament (MP) for Chua Chu Kang GRC. He has held positions in the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Health. He also helmed the Ministerial Committee on Ageing, to drive the formulation and implementation of ageing policies in Singapore, and co-chaired the Multi-Ministry Taskforce on COVID-19 from 2020 to 2023, which directed and coordinated Singapore’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Gan started his career in the Singapore Civil Service at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Home Affairs. In 1989, he left the civil service for the private sector and joined NatSteel Ltd as a manager for Corporate Planning. He was promoted to Executive Vice President of NatSteel and CEO of NatSteel Resorts International and NatSteel Properties in 1996. In 2005, he became the CEO and President of NatSteel.

Mr Gan was awarded the Overseas Merit Scholarship to read Engineering in Cambridge University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree (honours) in 1981. Mr Gan subsequently obtained his master’s degree in Engineering from Cambridge University in 1985.

Born in 1959, Mr Gan is married with two daughters.

In March 2024, Nikesh (Nik) Mehta was appointed as the new British High Commissioner to Singapore. He started his posting in July 2024.

Prior to this, Nik served from 2022 to 2024 as the Director for Policy and Requirements in the UK’s National Security Community.

Nik joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in 2002, and has worked in Iraq, Uganda, Malaysia and South Korea. The posting to Uganda was particularly poignant for Nik because his mother, a Ugandan-Asian, was expelled from the country by Idi Amin’s forces in the early 1970s. He reported on the 20-year conflict between the Ugandan Government and the Lord’s Resistance Army, and the ensuing humanitarian crisis. Nik was the Political Counsellor in Malaysia and was responsible for the UK’s response to the two Malaysia Airlines disasters in 2014 and 2015.

Nik’s most recent role overseas was as the Deputy Ambassador at the British Embassy in South Korea from 2018 to 2022. Alongside the Ambassador, Nik was responsible for leading the embassy through the challenges of Covid and for deepening the bilateral partnership with the Korean government. During his time in South Korea, Nik brokered an agreement with the K-pop band Blackpink to work with the British government on climate action.

In the UK, Nik’s roles have primarily focused on conflict and security issues. From 2015 to 2018, Nik was a Deputy Director at the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) working on international cyber-security.

Throughout his career, Nik has been a strong supporter of diversity and inclusion. He believes passionately that the Diplomatic and Intelligence Services should reflect fully the talent across UK society and that diversity is one of the UK’s great strengths. Nik has led a number of campaigns to improve the recruitment and development of staff from minority backgrounds. He is the National Security Community’s co-Champion for Race.

Nik was awarded at OBE in HM The Queen’s 2014 Birthday Honours for his contribution to British foreign policy and diversity.

Haslam grew up in Hong Kong and following service in the British army, joined Jardine Matheson in 2001, where he held various management roles across Greater China and Southeast Asia in automotive, real estate and retail. Haslam joined CapitaLand Investment as Chief People and Culture Officer in 2024.

Haslam was Chairman of BritCham Indonesia from 2011 to 2014 and has been on the board of BritCham Singapore since 2015. He currently sits on the Singapore Ministry of Manpower’s National Wage Council and is a volunteer officer in the Singapore Police Force.

Haslam has a BA in War Studies from King's College, University of London and a MA in Chinese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He also holds a PGDip in Surveying from the College of Estate Management, Reading University and has completed the General Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
