Singapore, the first major corporate hub in Asia, is opening up for international travel with no quarantine required for fully vaccinated passengers. This encourages families to be reunited after a long period caused by the global pandemic, and to restart the corridor of trade visits for vaccinated travellers. Arrivals from the UK and several countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy and Netherlands will now be eligible for the VTL scheme.

To assist with your travel arrangements we have worked with our colleagues at British Airways, as a long-standing partner of the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore, to answer some of your anticipated questions on flying with the airline using the VTL.

From the 19th of October, British Airways BA11 services from London Heathrow (LHR) to Singapore (SIN) will operate under the VTL (Vaccinated Travel Lane) scheme, four times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays departing LHR at 19:55 and arriving in SIN at 16:25. Flights out of Singapore (eg BA12) will not be impacted.

The VTL scheme means that customers travelling on these services now need to meet a number of requirements to be able to travel related to their vaccination status. FAQs
Will the BritCham 10% discount for members booking BA flights remain valid for VTL flights?
  • The BritCham Singapore 10% discount off base fares (excluding taxes and carrier charges) is applicable for VTL flights. Visit this link for full details and access to the discount.
 
I had already booked a flight to the UK before the VTL was announced. Will my flight automatically be changed to a VTL flight? If not, how can I change it to a VTL flight so that I do not have to serve a Stay-Home-Notice (SHN)?
  • At the moment, all British Airways flights departing from London to Singapore are VTL flights. The first VTL from London departs on 19Oct to Singapore.
  • Flights booked from London to Singapore prior to the announcement of the VTL will be honoured as VTL flight bookings, assuming the traveller(s) meets all VTL requirements.
  • If you do not meet the requirements of the VTL and have a flight booked, contact British Airways Customer Service at +65 66221747.
 
Will it be possible to book economy or premium economy class fares for trips planned in the remainder of 2021?
  • Flights are available for bookings.

When are you expecting more VTL slots to be opened up?
  • British Airways await updates from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.  

If my plans change and I have a VTL flight booked, can I change the flight date/time?
  • This may be possible subject to the fare rules and conditions on the ticket purchase.

For groups, such as Trade Missions keen to plan visits to Singapore using the VTL, is a group booking possible?
  • British Airways accept group bookings and this is best managed via Travel Agencies.
 
Will travellers departing from the UK be made aware of the current local restrictions in Singapore at the point of booking and/or check-in? For example, a group of travellers may not be aware of local restrictions around meeting or dining out in groups at the point of travel.
  • Text Messages on VTL flight requirements will be sent to passengers two days before their departure to Singapore as a reminder.
  • For updates on Singapore community measures, travellers can visit the MOH website or BritCham’s Covid-19 Information Hub.
